Title: The Arena
Post by: NecRomancer52 on June 04, 2013, 03:16:59 AM
This was a pretty popular thread on the old GG forum. Might as well give it a try here.

General sports ramblings in general. Stuff that don't really need their own thread.

I'll start: Reds win tonight, sweet!

Tomas Rosicky admits he is hoping to see Arsène Wenger strengthen his Arsenal (http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/topics/arsenal/) squad this summer. The Gunners have been linked with a number of big-name signings in recent months, including Barcelona (http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/topics/barcelona/)’s David Villa and Cesc Fàbregas.
The north Londoners are understood to be close to snapping up Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo, as well as closing in on a deal for Lyon playmaker Clément Grenier.
And midfielder Rosicky is keen for Wenger to bring in “reinforcements” ahead of next season.
“We are a club that every summer sees one or two players come in, but we still find ourselves needing to replace someone and it is always difficult,” said Rosicky.
“It looks like no-one will leave [this summer] and in turn we could have reinforcements. We would all benefit from that.”
Asked about his own future, the 32-year-old replied: “At the end of the season I spoke with the boss and he said he wants me to stay at Arsenal.
“Of course you never know what can happen, but I should stay.”

Arsenal’s player of the season Santi Cazorla continued his rich vein of form with a goal for Spain in their 2-1 friendly win over Haiti on Saturday night.
Cazorla has now scored 9 goals for Spain with eight of those strikes coming in friendly match appearances from the Arsenal playmaker.
The Arsenal schemer played the full 90 minutes alongside Gunners team mate Nacho Monreal.
Cesc Fabregas scored the second Spain goal as La Furia Roja prepare for the Confederations Cup which kicks off next Sunday against Uruguay.

Gonzalo Higuain to Complete £22m Arsenal switch as Real Madrid Sanction Sale

Bernabeu striker set for Emirates Stadium medical as La Liga side agree deal.

Real Madrid have reportedly sanctioned the sale Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal according to talkSPORT (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/130621/higuain-seal-%C2%A322m-arsenal-switch-real-madrid-sanction-sale-2).
There had been reports that Florentino Perez was planning to wait on agreeing or indeed announcing any player sales until a successor to Jose Mourinho was found, however this source states that the Bernabeu president has decided to give the go-ahead to the move now.
Wenger will hope the signing of the 25 year old Argentine will help end an eight year silverware drought and there is no doubting Higuain’s pedigree.
The Real Madrid man scored 16 La Liga goals last term, this despite the fact he only made 19 starts, and will hope to garner the regular first team football he was unable to secure during Jose Mourinho’s three years in charge of the Spanish giants.
Juventus are also said to be interested in Higuain but the Real Madrid man is apparently set on moving to Arsenal this summer.
Higuain may well be seen as the man to more adequately fill the void left by the departure of Robin Van Persie to Man United, with Olivier Giroud having something of an average first season at the Emirates Stadium.

I'll do my best Brit impression, pretending I give a fuck about soccer.

Clint Dempsey to Tottenham Hotspur, Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Also, football preseason baby!

The Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908. WW1 would not be fought for another 6 years.

Everton 2 - 0 Manchester UTD

I knew he wouldn't last a year at UTD to much pressure, first time not qualified for champions league in 18 seasons.

If the Arsenal vs Hull away game is any indicator hopefully we can end our 9 season trophy drought, it's been a hard decade after such an awesome previous decade.
